Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).

Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

Tour To Showcase the Delicious Gardens of Somerville [21 Jul 2010|02:20am]

kjc

For our neighbors at Tufts,

On Sunday, July 25, 11am-5pm, the Somerville Garden Club will sponsor a tour of food-producing gardens in Somerville. "Incredible Edible Gardens of Somerville: A Self-Guided Tour" will feature over two-dozen public and private sites where fruits, vegetables, and herbs come together in a delicious medley. On display will be the ingenious methods of dedicated urban growers who appreciate raising their own food, be it on a small rooftop or in a spacious community garden. Gardeners will be available to share their experiences and answer questions, and presentations on garden techniques such as constructing a hoop house and worm composting will take place throughout the day. This is a great place and it's fairly close to Tufts; I can walk to the main gate and it's also a block or so from Curtis Street. If you're interested, let me know.

Sexual violence on campus [17 Aug 2009|07:01pm]

mon_deluge
Hi

As some of you may know, there was a town meeting of sorts on the Medford campus about sexual violence at our university and how it's handled.  I  was one of the students who organized it.

I was wondering if anyone here has personally experienced how Tufts deals with survivors of sexual assault on campus by the hands of another student or if they know someone who has. I am looking for survivors to talk to and maybe help improve the policy in a totally anonymous way. :)

Obviously everything would remain confidential. I won't tell anyone about lj names or even the website involved.

Thanks!

Anvil, 4/16 [15 Apr 2009|01:53pm]

movehalfaninch
The Anvil Experience is coming to the Boston area tomorrow at the Palladium at Worcester, MA. For those of you who don't know, the Anvil Experience is where you get to see that new rock-doc called Anvil! The Story of Anvil (which has been called the real life This Is Spinal Tap) and then the band performs a short set immediately following. My friends saw this in NYC and said it was the best thing ever.

tickets are still available here.

The Decemberists 4/25 [15 Apr 2009|11:10am]

dirrtypop01
Hi everyone,

I'm a big Decemberists fan, and I'm wondering if there are any Tufts students out there who'd be interested in helping me grab tickets to the show on April 25. I'm not interested in scalpers, just looking for a Tufts fan to help out a non-Tufts fan. I'll meet you on campus and give you cash for the tickets at the same time you buy them. I'd love to get 4 tickets, but 2 would work as well.

Dumb question [27 Dec 2008|11:22am]

jessiehl
I feel a bit silly asking such a question, but I'm not having much luck with Google. I'm a part-time post-bac student, and thus never received any proper Orientation to Tufts.

How do plusses and minuses on grades factor into GPA calculation (in arts, sciences, & engineering)? My undergraduate university didn't award them, except internally to show you how close you were to the next grade.

New Tufts ACB [02 Oct 2008|06:33pm]
admiralrewd
I'm sure some of you already know about the old Tufts ACB. Well it hasn't gotten much use lately, so I got one going at another site with a better format. Check it out:
http://www.collegeacb.com/sb.php?school=tufts&page=board&tab=posts&category=All&p=1

If you aren't familiar with the old ACB, basically it's an anonymous confession board, you can talk about basically any topic you want. It is very popular at wesleyan, JHU, oberlin, and a few other schools. There is a login, but it is optional. The only reason to login is if you want to send/receive private messages, vote for posts, or keep track of your threads.

Enjoy!

genderpac

The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition is pleased to announce the release of its 2008 GENIUS Survey in partnership with Ernst & Young.  GenderPAC works to ensure that classrooms, communities and workplaces are safe for everyone to learn, grow and succeed.

The Gender Equality National Index for Universities & Schools (GENIUS), GenderPAC’s most recent effort to end discrimination and promote awareness, encourages colleges and universities to recognize the benefits of a GenderSAFEtm campus - supportive equitable and protective for all students. Choosing to participate in GENUIS sends a strong public statement that bullying or discriminating based on the race, sex or gender of a student, faculty, or staff member is not tolerated at your institution

Fill out the survey at:  www.gpac.org/GENIUS2008survey, and make sure that we have data for as many schools as possible. Your voice will help us continue to work towards a safe and welcoming environment for every student.

While we greatly appreciate the interest taken in GENIUS by students, staff and faculty at academic institutions outside of the United States, at this time GENIUS is only able to track schools based in the United States.

Condo for sale or rent in medford [10 Jun 2008|02:05pm]

overstim
Hey, selling my condo in south Medford. 2 bed, 2 bath, all modern appliances. Washer/dryer in unit, building has a pool, gym and raquetball. Its within walking distance of the meadow glen mall busses, and Wellington Orange Line. Also like a 2 minute drive from Tufts.

We are also considering renting it. I didn't feel like posting on the rentals section on Craigslist because every time I do, I get 100 emails from people wanting to know how close it is to Maine, or if I would cut my price to $5 a month, or if they can sniff my hair. But YOU guys, YOU guys I can trust.

$1400 a month with 2 parking spaces. Or $299,000 if you're looking to buy.

But enough of that, get your details here:  http://web.mac.com/overstim/

Tell the world about Tufts [04 Mar 2008|11:30am]

bystudents
X-posted to... well, to just about every Tufts community

Hey Jumbos! I know that this risks seeming a little spam-y, but I also think that it's a rare opportunity for people at Tufts, and recent grads, to talk about a school that's pretty amazing.

ByStudents (that's us) is a new, entirely student-written guide to America’s top colleges and we want to hear what you think about Tufts. After all, you're the ones who go here. No one knows your school better than you do.

Do you love it? Hate it? Something you wish you could change?

Go to our website, fill out a survey and tell the world what Tufts is actually like. Your review may get published in the forthcoming series of guidebooks, and many more will be featured on the website. All reviews are encouraged: positive, negative, blah. We want to hear whatever it is you have to say. The more information we get, the better we can represent your school.

Thanks everyone!

Not a specific question, but I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the MS in Animals and Public Policy? Anything more specific than the website, I suppose..
